Bonsai trees need well-draining soil, consistent watering, and proper light. Water when the topsoil feels dry—never let the roots sit in water. Use a soil mix suited to the tree type (e.g., more organic matter for tropicals, gritty mix for others). Most bonsai need bright, indirect light; tropicals can grow indoors year-round, while deciduous and evergreen trees need a cold, dormant period.
Prune regularly to maintain shape and size. Repot every 1–3 years, trimming roots to keep the tree small and healthy. Wiring can help shape branches but should be monitored so it doesn’t damage the bark. Keep humidity up in winter for indoor trees, and ensure drainage is always clear. With care and patience, bonsai thrive for many years in small containers.
